Report to CIS Foundation

Stichting CIS stands for Stichting Centraal Informatie Systeem. Stichting CIS is a foundation that records certain information about consumers for various insurers.
This means that you may be registered when you have filed a claim with your insurer.

Stichting CIS promotes the interests of insurers. They do this by exchanging information between insurers and supervising the exchange of information. By exchanging information, participants are given the opportunity to protect themselves against abuse and to prevent and combat this.

Anyone can come into contact with the CIS Foundation. You can be registered if you have submitted a claim to your insurer. The question of guilt is not a determining factor here. You will also be registered when your insurer terminates the insurance. An insurer does not do this just like that, but when you have failed to meet your obligations or in the event of an unusually large number of claims, for example.

Different registrations

There are several registrations in the database of the CIS Foundation.
What does a CIS registration mean? A CIS registration has to do with your insurance history. You can be registered with Stichting CIS for various reasons. It involves data that gives the insurer insight into the customer's insurance history, such as:

  • Claimmelding
  • Driving disqualification
  • A damage history
  • A police and judicial past
  • Cancellation/termination by an insurance company
  • Fraud in claiming a loss

An insurance company has the right to cancel an insurance under certain conditions. This is called cancellation and can happen when you do not pay the premium (on time).

Delete CIS registration

A CIS registration is registered for a maximum of 8 years. This concerns 'special reports'. These are, among other things, reports that reveal a case of fraud or swindling. In other cases, the registration is automatically deleted after a maximum of 5 years.

Deleting a CIS registration before the maximum duration has expired can only be done by the person who has put the registration in the system. If you object to the registration and it turns out to be justified, the insurer can delete the registration.

View CIS registrations

You have the right to see which of your personal data is registered by Stichting CIS. To do so, you can submit a request for inspection to Stichting CIS by completing the inspection form on the CIS website.

After submitting the web form, you will receive an e-mail that you should sign and send a copy of your valid identification document to [email protected].

If you do not wish to use the web form, you may download and print the request for inspection.
You can then send the form fully completed and signed, with a copy of your valid ID, to:

CIS Foundation
Attn: Inspection Team.
P.O. Box 91627

Normally, within 28 days you will receive a message whether you are in the database. If you are in the database, you will receive an overview of the notification. You will also be able to see who has posted a message.

De Vereende

Many people wonder whether it is possible to take out insurance if you have a CIS registration. When you want to apply for an insurance or submit a claim, most insurers will make enquiries at Stichting CIS. What an insurer does with this information differs per case and per company. Usually it is the case that you cannot go to a regular insurer with a CIS registration. In this case De Vereende offers a solution.

De Vereende is a company that wants to insure special risks where regular companies fail to do so. De Vereende will always accept an insurance application, but the premium is higher than for a regular insurance.

To take out insurance, De Vereende sets certain conditions:

  • You pay the premium at least 3 months in advance, also when paying monthly.
  • The insurance only takes effect after receipt of the first premium and a signed application form.
  • In most cases De Vereende also charges a deposit of an average of €175, which you must pay in advance. If there is no damage at the end of the insurance policy, this amount will be refunded to you.

If an insurance company has refused you because you are registered with Stichting CIS then it is possible at Alpina to accept you. Alpina is an intermediary of De Vereende. You can calculate the premium online and apply for the insurance.

De Vereende Insurances

De Vereende offers different types of insurance, namely:

  • Car Insurance
  • Liability insurance. With the De Vereende liability insurance you are insured against damage that you accidentally cause to another person or another person's property.
  • Household contents insurance. This insurance covers all moveable property (items in the house that can be moved) that belongs to your private household.
  • Home insurance. With this insurance you insure against damage to your home and its immovable property (things in the house that cannot be moved, i.e. earth- and nail fixed).

Database polluted by incorrect claims data

TV program Kassa discovered that the database of Foundation CIS not only contains claims, but also records data from people who have only made an information request.
