Reporting to the CIS Foundation

CIS Foundation stands for Central Information System Foundation. The CIS Foundation is an organization that collects certain consumer data on behalf of various insurers.
This means that you may be registered if you have filed a claim with your insurer.

The CIS Foundation represents the interests of insurers. They do this by exchanging information between insurers and supervising the exchange of information, among other things. By exchanging information, participants are given the opportunity to protect themselves against abuse and to prevent and combat it.

Anyone can come into contact with the CIS Foundation. You may be registered if you have filed a claim with your insurer. The question of fault is not a determining factor here. This will also be recorded if your insurer terminates your policy. An insurer does not do this without cause, but rather when, for example, you have failed to meet your obligations or in the event of an unusually high number of claims.

Different registrations

The CIS Foundation database contains various records.
What does a CIS record entail? A CIS record relates to your insurance history. You may be listed in the CIS Foundation database for various reasons. This information provides the insurer with insight into the customer’s insurance history, such as:

  • Claimmelding
  • Driving disqualification
  • A damage history
  • A police and judicial past
  • Termination/termination by an insurance company.
  • Fraud in claiming a loss

An insurance company has the right to cancel a policy under certain conditions. This is called cancellation and can occur if you fail to pay the premium (on time).

Delete CIS registration

A CIS registration is registered for a maximum of 8 years. These are "special reports. These are, among other things, reports when there is evidence of fraud or deception. In other cases, the registration is automatically deleted after a maximum of 5 years.

Only the person who entered the CIS registration into the system can delete it before the maximum duration has expired. If you file an objection to the registration and it is found to be valid, the insurer may delete the registration.

Viewing CIS registrations

You have the right to access the personal data that Stichting CIS has on file about you. To do so, you can submit a request for access to Stichting CIS by filling out the access request form on the CIS website.

After you submit the web form, you will receive an email asking you to sign it and email a copy of a valid ID to [email protected]

If you prefer not to use the online form, you can download and print the access request form.
Once you have completed and signed the form, please send it, along with a copy of your valid ID, to:

You will normally receive a notification within 28 days letting you know whether you are listed in the database. If you are listed, you will receive a summary of the report. You will also be able to see who filed the report.

The Vereende

Many people wonder whether it is even possible to purchase insurance if you have a CIS registration. When you apply for insurance or file a claim, most insurers check with Stichting CIS. What an insurer does with this information varies by case and company. Usually, if you have a CIS registration, you cannot get coverage from a standard insurer. In this case, De Vereende offers a solution.

De Vereende is a company that does want to insure special risks where regular companies drop out. De Vereende will always accept an insurance application, but the premium is higher than with regular insurance.

The Vereende imposes a number of conditions for taking out insurance:

  • You pay the premium at least 3 months in advance, even with monthly payments.
  • The insurance takes effect only after receipt of the first premium and a signed application form.
  • In most cases, Vereende also charges a security deposit of €175 on average, which you must pay in advance. If there has been no damage by the end of the insurance period, this amount will be refunded to you.

If an insurance company has turned you down because you are registered with Stichting CIS, Alpina may still be able to accept you. Alpina is an agent for Vereende. You can calculate your premium and apply for insurance online.

De Vereende Insurance

De Vereende offers different types of insurance, namely:

  • Car Insurance
  • Liability Insurance. With Vereende’s liability insurance, you’re covered for damage you accidentally cause to another person or to another person’s property.
  • Home Contents Insurance. This insurance covers all personal property (movable items in your home) that belong to your private household.
  • Homeowners insurance. This insurance covers damage to your home and its fixtures (items in the home that cannot be moved, i.e., those that are permanently attached to the structure).

Database contaminated by erroneous claims data

TV program Kassa discovered that the database of Foundation CIS not only contains claims, but also records data from people who have only made an information request.
