All about Roy Data

Roy Data is the central database of the EPS Foundation (Efficient Processes for Non-Life Insurers). During the term of your auto insurance policy, you accumulate claim-free years. Your insurer records these claim-free years in Roy Data. If you cancel your policy, you can use these claim-free years toward a new auto insurance policy. The new insurer consults Roy Data to see how many claim-free years you have accumulated. This allows them to apply the correct premium discount.

Who is Roy Data intended for?

Roy Data is intended for both insurers and policyholders. When a car insurance policy is canceled, the insurer is required to enter the number of claim-free years accumulated into Roy Data. Any insurer can request data from Roy Data. When you take out a new car insurance policy, the insurer will check your claim-free years in Roy Data. This ensures you receive the correct premium discount. You don’t even have to do anything yourself. Until September 1, 2007, this was different, as you previously had to prove your claim-free years with a cancellation statement. However, paper statements are easier to lose, which meant it wasn’t always possible to determine how many claim-free years someone had accumulated. That’s why insurers switched to a digital system in 2007.

How long will my data remain in Roy Data?

During the term of your insurance policy, your accumulated claim-free years are locked into your auto insurance. When you cancel your policy, these accumulated claim-free years are released. Your insurer then records them in Roy-data. However, claim-free years do not remain valid indefinitely. After canceling your insurance, your claim-free years remain valid for another 3 years with most insurers. With some insurers, this is as short as 2 years, while with others it is 4 or even 5 years. You can find out how long claim-free years are valid with your insurer in the policy terms and conditions of your insurance.

Please note: claim-free years are only entered into Roy Data once your car insurance policy has ended. If your policy is still active but you want to know your claim-free years, please contact your insurer. These claim-free years are not yet recorded in Roy Data.

Roy Data viewing

As a policyholder, you can also view your claim-free years in Roy Data. You can do this through the Stichting EPS website, where you can fill out the right-to-access form. Submit this form, along with a copy of your ID, via the website. Please note that the data is not always up to date. If you currently have a car insurance policy in effect, the claim-free years you have accumulated during this term are not yet included in the database. You can request this information from your current car insurance provider. Additionally, this information is also listed on the policy statement you receive annually.

Roy Data claim-free years

During the term of your auto insurance policy, you accumulate claim-free years. Claim-free years are years in which you have not filed a claim with the insurer. For each claim-free year, you move up one step on the no-claims ladder. The higher you are on the no-claims ladder, the greater your premium discount. This means the amount you pay monthly for your car insurance goes down. By driving without making a claim, you can build up a discount of up to 70% or 80% with most insurers. These claim-free years are recorded in Roy Data after the insurance policy ends.

Roy Data retrieval

You can request your Roy Data information online. However, as a policyholder, it is often not necessary to view this information online. This is because once a year, you receive a policy statement from your insurer that lists the number of claim-free years you have accumulated. Have you lost your policy statement, or do you want to check your claim-free years on Roy Data? In that case, you can use the right of access form on the Stichting EPS website. Enter your personal information there. After submitting the form, it may take a while before you receive your claim-free years. In most cases, this takes a maximum of 28 days.

Roy Data is not correct

It is possible that the number of claim-free years in Roy Data is incorrect. This could be because your previous insurer recorded the wrong number of claim-free years. Do you suspect this is the case? If so, you should contact the insurer that recorded these claim-free years. They can then update the information. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS about this. They cannot and are not authorized to adjust claim-free years. Keep in mind that the data in Roy Data is not always up to date. Claim-free years are only recorded upon the termination of an insurance policy. If your car insurance is still active, these claim-free years have not yet been recorded.

Roy Data System

The Roy Data system is the digital database where insurers record claim-free years. Roy Data is an abbreviation for “Royementsverklaring Database” (Claim-Free Period Declaration Database). If you switch to a new car insurance provider, they can retrieve your claim-free years and add them to your policy. It is important that the correct number is transferred, as this is used to calculate your no-claims discount. This determines your position on the bonus-malus scale and the premium you will ultimately pay. Because Roy Data is a digital system, claim-free years are no longer lost, as was sometimes the case when paper cancellation statements were still in use.

Roy Data viewing

You can request access to your Roy Data records via the EPS Foundation website. You can do this by filling out the right of access form. On this form, you’ll need to provide some personal information. You’ll also need to attach a copy of your ID. It may take some time before your request is processed and you actually gain access to your data. You can only view your claim-free years after your insurance policy has ended. If your car insurance is still active, these claim-free years are not yet registered in Roy Data. If you wish to view them, please contact your current insurer.

Roy Data registry

The Roy Data registry is an online database where insurers record your accumulated claim-free years after your insurance policy ends. This registry is accessible to all insurers. When you purchase a new car insurance policy, the insurer can check the Roy Data registry to see how many claim-free years you have.
