How long does a CIS registration last?
How long a CIS record remains on file depends on the type of report. For example, a record related to fraud remains on file longer than one related to a history of claims. An insurer always considers the nature and severity of the report. Read on to find out how long a CIS record remains on file and how you can still get insurance.
Duration of registration depending on type of notification
So, the length of time a record remains on file varies depending on the report. You may be recorded in the CIS database in various situations:
Driving disqualification
Have you had your driver’s license suspended? If so, this is recorded in the CIS database. A driver’s license suspension remains on record for 5 years. In the case of a driver’s license suspension, the 5-year period does not begin until the last day of the suspension.
Damage reports
The CIS database tracks all claims you file with your insurer. It does not matter who is at fault for the damage. The only relevant factor is that someone has filed a claim with their insurance company. Claims remain on record for 5 years.
Negative claim-free years
Do you have negative claim-free years? If so, this is recorded in the database. The quickest way to clear this record is to know that negative claim-free years remain on record for 15 months.
Failure to meet financial obligations
If you fail to pay your insurance premium multiple times, you will be labeled a “delinquent payer.” Your insurer then has the right to cancel your policy. This is always recorded in the CIS database. A record of non-payment remains on file for approximately 3 to 5 years.
Failure to fulfill contractual obligations
An insurance policy is a contract in which both the insurer and the insured have certain obligations. Your contract always includes a number of contractual obligations that you must comply with. If you fail to do so, your insurer has the right to terminate the policy. A record of non-compliance with contractual obligations remains on file for 5 years.
Insurance fraud or attempted insurance fraud
If you commit insurance fraud or attempt to do so, your personal data will be entered into the database. Information about individuals who did not tell the whole truth when applying for insurance may also be included. A fraud report remains on record for a long time—on average, about 8 years.
Only the person who entered the CIS registration into the system can delete it before the maximum duration has expired. Do you believe the registration is incorrect or unjustified? If so, you can also challenge your CIS registration. Here’s how to do it.
Taking out De Vereende car insurance? Calculate your premium!
Getting insurance with a CIS registration
When you’ll be able to purchase insurance from a standard insurer again depends on how long your CIS registration remains active. Until then, you can turn to the insurance company De Vereende. De Vereende was founded specifically to insure special risks. De Vereende has a broad underwriting policy and therefore accepts almost everyone. Where other companies turn you down, they can almost always offer you insurance. Of course, this comes with a number of conditions. For example, the insurance premium is significantly higher than at other companies, you must pay three months’ premium in advance, and in most cases, you’ll have to pay a security deposit.
Would you like an estimate of the costs? You can calculate an estimate of your premium online right here. That way, you’ll know exactly where you stand in advance. Please keep in mind that your insurance coverage does not take effect until you have paid the first premium and returned the application form, fully completed and signed. As a result, it may take a few days before your coverage begins.
