How can you request your CIS registration?

Would you like to know which of your personal data are on file with Stichting CIS? If so, you can submit a request for access to Stichting CIS. Unfortunately, we cannot do this for you, even if you want to purchase insurance through us. This is due to privacy laws. However, we can explain how you can request your CIS registration! Read on to find out more.

What information can be requested?

If you request your registration records from the CIS Foundation, you will receive an exact copy of the information about you stored in the CIS database. You will know who registered you, when it happened, and—perhaps most importantly—the reason for your registration. The following information is recorded in the CIS database:

Suspension of Driving Privileges

Have you ever had your driver’s license suspended? If so, this is recorded in the CIS database. In such cases, the Ministry of Transport, Public Works, and Water Management has approved the registration. It is important for an insurer to know whether a policyholder’s driver’s license has been (temporarily) revoked. Information regarding driving disqualifications is provided by the Public Prosecutor’s Office after the individual has been sentenced by a judge to a driving disqualification.

Claims

The CIS database contains a record of all claims you file with your insurer. It doesn’t matter who is at fault for the damage. The only thing that matters is that someone has filed an insurance claim. The factual details and personal information for each claim are recorded. If you want to know whether your insurance claim is being denied because you’ve filed too many claims, you can request your CIS registration records.

Cancellation of Insurance by the Insurer

An insurer sometimes has the right to terminate your insurance policy. For example, if you fail to pay your premium for an extended period, if you file too many claims, or if you intentionally provide the insurer with false information. If a policyholder fails to meet their contractual or financial obligations, this is recorded in the CIS database. If you terminate your insurance policy yourself, this is not recorded.

Accident Involving an Uninsured Car

If a motor vehicle is involved in an accident but is uninsured, the details of the license plate holder, the vehicle owner, and the driver will be recorded. By driving without insurance, you not only risk being registered in the CIS, but also face substantial fines from both the police and the RDW. In addition, you will be responsible for all costs.
