How can you request your CIS registration?

Would you like to know which of your personal data is on file with Stichting CIS? If so, you can submit a request for access to Stichting CIS. Unfortunately, we cannot do this for you, even if you wish to purchase insurance through us. This is due to privacy laws. However, we can explain how you can request your CIS registration! Read on to find out more.

What data can be requested?

If you request your registered data from the CIS Foundation, you will receive an exact copy of the information about you stored in the CIS database. You will know who registered you, when it happened, and—perhaps most importantly—the reason for your registration. The following information is recorded in the CIS database:

Driving disqualification

Have you had your driver’s license suspended? If so, this is recorded in the CIS database. In such cases, the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management has approved the registration. It is important for an insurer to know whether a policyholder’s driver’s license has been (temporarily) revoked. The details of driving disqualifications are provided by the Public Prosecutor’s Office after the person concerned has been sentenced by a judge to a driving disqualification.

Damage reports

The CIS database contains a record of all claims you file with your insurer. It does not matter who is at fault for the damage. The only relevant factor is that someone has filed a claim with their insurance company. For each claim, the factual details and personal information are recorded. Do you want to know if your insurance claim is being denied because you have filed too many claims? If so, you can request your CIS registration details.

Insurance cancellation by insurer

An insurer sometimes has the right to terminate your insurance policy. For example, if you fail to pay your premium for an extended period, if you file too many claims, or if you intentionally provide false information to the insurer. If a policyholder fails to meet their contractual or financial obligations, this is recorded in the CIS database. If you terminate your insurance yourself, this is not recorded.

Accident with an uninsured car

When a motor vehicle is involved in an accident but is not insured, the details of the license plate holder, the owner of the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle are registered. By driving uninsured, you risk not only a CIS registration, but also hefty fines from both the police and the RDW. Moreover, all costs are at your own expense.

Insurance fraud or attempted insurance fraud

If you commit insurance fraud or attempt to do so, your personal data will be entered into the database. Data on individuals who did not tell the whole truth when applying for insurance may also be entered. This includes, for example, concealing a criminal history or withholding relevant insurance history.

Under the “Registrant” section of your registered information, you can see who registered you with Stichting CIS. This is usually your insurer, but you may, of course, have policies with different insurers. If you have any questions about the reason for the registration or the details of the recorded information, please contact the entity that registered you.
