Because of a driver's license suspension, I can't insure my car: what should I do?
Insuring your car after a driver’s license suspension? That can sometimes be harder than you think. Many car insurance companies view you as a higher risk and will therefore reject your application. Your car must have at least third-party liability coverage, so as soon as a license plate is registered in your name, you must purchase car insurance. If every regular insurance company turns you down, what can you do?
Can you still insure your car if your license has been suspended?
A driver's license suspension does not automatically mean that you cannot purchase auto insurance from a regular insurance company. Some insurers may still accept your application. This depends on:
- The duration of the driver's license suspension
- The date of the driver's license suspension
- The reason for the driver's license suspension
We therefore recommend that you always use our online comparison tool first to compare car insurance providers. Enter your personal information and desired coverage, and then choose the best car insurance policy. If you answer all of the insurer’s underwriting questions truthfully, you’ll automatically see whether your application is accepted. If it isn’t, fortunately, you can always turn to De Vereende Insurance Company.
The Vereende
Are you unable to insure your car with a traditional insurance company because of a driving suspension? If so, you can still purchase auto insurance from De Vereende. De Vereende specializes in insuring special risks and claims. Thanks to its broad underwriting policy, it generally accepts everyone. This means that even people with a record of a driver’s license suspension, a criminal record, or a history of non-payment can take out insurance here. However, this comes with some additional costs. For example, you’ll pay a higher premium at De Vereende than at other insurers. You’ll also need to pay three months’ premium in advance. Finally, you’ll pay a security deposit. Vereende can use this security deposit to offset any unpaid premiums if you’re late with a payment. If you pay your premium on time every month, you’ll get your security deposit back when the insurance policy ends.
