What is the Roy Data registry?

The Roy Data registry is the central database of the EPS Foundation (Efficient Processes for Non-Life Insurers). In the past, you had to prove your claim-free years with a cancellation statement. You received this paper statement from your insurer after your auto insurance policy ended. However, since September 1, 2007, insurance companies have switched to a digital system. When you subsequently take out a new auto insurance policy, your new insurer will consult the Roy Data registry to see how many claim-free years you have. This allows them to link this information to your new policy.

Claim-free years in the Roy Data register

During the term of your car insurance policy, your no-claims years are “locked in.” You cannot use them for another insurance policy during this time. After canceling the policy, your accumulated claim-free years are released. The insurer then registers them in Roy Data. This allows you to use your claim-free years for a new car insurance policy. Keep in mind, however, that claim-free years do not remain valid indefinitely. After canceling your car insurance, your no-claims years remain valid for 3 years with most insurers. This does vary by insurer. With some insurers, this is only 2 years, while with others it is 4 or even 5 years. Therefore, always check when taking out your car insurance how long claim-free years are valid with your insurer. This way, you’ll know how long your claim-free years will remain in the Roy Data registry

How does requesting my data from the Roy Data registry work?

You can request your information from the Roy Data registry via the EPS Foundation website. However, the data is not always up to date. Claim-free years are only entered into Roy Data once your car insurance policy has ended. If you still have an active car insurance policy, the claim-free years you have accumulated during that period are not yet registered. You can request this information from your current insurer. It is also listed on your insurance policy statement.

To request your data from Roy Data, follow these steps: fill out the data access request form on the Stichting EPS website. All you need to do is enter your personal information and provide a copy of a valid ID. Then submit the form. After submitting the form, it may take a little while before you receive your no-claims years. In most cases, this takes up to 28 days.

My information is not correct, how do I update it?

Have you checked your information in the Roy Data registry but suspect it is incorrect? If so, you can contact the insurer that recorded your claim-free years. The insurer can then correct the incorrect claim-free years. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS for this. Stichting EPS cannot and is not authorized to adjust claim-free years. You must therefore always report incorrect information to the relevant insurer.
