What is the Roy Data system?

The Roy Data system is the central database of the EPS Foundation. Roy Data has been in operation since September 1, 2007. Prior to that, you had to prove your claim-free years with a cancellation statement. Nowadays, however, a digital system is used to record your claim-free years. This happens after your insurance policy ends. When you then take out a new car insurance policy, your new insurer consults Roy Data to see how many claim-free years you have. This allows them to apply the correct premium discount, ensuring you don’t end up paying too much for your car insurance.

How exactly does the Roy Data system work?

You accumulate claim-free years during the term of your auto insurance policy. While the policy is still in effect, your accumulated claim-free years are tied to that policy. After your auto insurance policy ends, the insurer will transfer your claim-free years to the Roy Data system. If you take out a new policy, your new insurer can claim those claim-free years and add them to your policy. The more claim-free years you have accumulated, the greater your premium discount will be. That is why it is important that the correct number of claim-free years is recorded.

Is the Roy Data system up to date?

No, the information in Roy Data isn’t always up to date. That’s because claim-free years aren’t recorded until an insurance policy is canceled. This means the data is updated as soon as the car insurance policy is terminated. If your car insurance is still active, the claim-free years you’ve accumulated during this period haven’t yet been recorded in Roy Data. So when you request the data, it’s possible that you’ve accumulated more claim-free years in the meantime than what’s listed in Roy Data. If you’ve filed a claim with the insurer, you may also have lost some of your claim-free years. Keep this in mind when reviewing the data in the Roy Data system.

How long will my data be in the Roy Data system?

Claim-free years are not valid indefinitely. After canceling your car insurance, your claim-free years remain valid for another 3 years with most insurers. However, this varies by insurer. With some insurers, this is only 2 years, while with others it is 4 or even 5 years. Therefore, always check when taking out your car insurance how long your claim-free years are valid with your insurer. This way, you’ll know how long your claim-free years will remain in the Roy Data system.

Would you like to view your information in the Roy Data system? You can request it on the EPS Foundation website using the right-to-access form. Please submit this form along with a copy of your ID. After submitting the form, it may take some time before you receive your claim-free years. In most cases, this takes up to 28 days.

I think my claim-free years in Roy Data are not correct. What can I do?

It is possible that the number of claim-free years on record is incorrect. In that case, your previous insurer likely recorded the wrong number of claim-free years. If you suspect an error, you can contact the insurer in question. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS about this, as Stichting EPS cannot and is not authorized to adjust claim-free years.
