How can I retrieve information in Roy Data?

In the past, claim-free years were verified using a cancellation statement. However, since September 1, 2007, insurance companies have switched to a digital system: Roy Data. Roy Data is the name of a system for policy cancellation data in the insurance market. Roy Data (Policy Cancellation Statements Database) ensures that claim-free years can be stored digitally and are therefore more easily accessible. Not only can insurers request data from the Roy Data registry, but you, as a policyholder, can as well. On Geennee.nl , we Geennee.nl how to do that.

How do claim-free years work in Roy Data?

Claim-free years are recorded in Roy Data after your car insurance policy ends. If you then take out a new car insurance policy, your new insurer can retrieve your claim-free years from Roy Data. The insurer will then add this information to your insurance policy. This digital system offers significant advantages. For example, it is no longer necessary to submit the paper cancellation statement (no-claims statement) when switching to a new insurance company.

Unfortunately, claim-free years are not valid indefinitely. After canceling your car insurance, your claim-free years remain valid for another 3 years with most insurers. However, this varies by insurer. With some insurers, this is only 2 years, while with others it is 4 or even 5 years. Therefore, always check when taking out your car insurance how long your claim-free years are valid with your insurer. This way, you’ll know how long your claim-free years will remain in the Roy Data system.

Requesting information online

You can request information from Roy Data via the EPS Foundation website. To do so, fill out the right of access form and attach a copy of your ID. Please note that it may take some time before you actually receive the data. Generally, it takes up to 28 days.

The information in Roy Data is not always up to date. This is because claim-free years are only entered into Roy Data once your car insurance policy has ended. If you still have a current car insurance policy, the claim-free years you have accumulated during that period have not yet been recorded. You can request the claim-free years accumulated while your car insurance is still active from your insurer. They will also list these annually on your policy statement.

Does this affect car insurance?

When you take out a new car insurance policy, the insurer will check Roy Data to see how many claim-free years you have accumulated. If those claim-free years have not yet been claimed by another insurer, they will be credited to the new policy.

You can also have negative claim-free years. If you have negative claim-free years, this is referred to as a “malus” situation. The consequence of negative claim-free years is that you’ll have to pay a higher premium for your car insurance. If your balance is negative, this can affect your ability to purchase new car insurance. This is because not every insurance company automatically accepts drivers with a malus situation. Before you cancel your insurance, it’s wise to first check with the new insurance company to see if they’re willing to accept you. Otherwise, you can always turn to De Vereende insurance company. They have a more flexible acceptance policy and will therefore almost always accept your application.
